In Hargeisa, MSF is providing free basic healthcare and nutritional care to particularly vulnerable people, focusing on children under five. MSF also provides antenatal and postnatal care for pregnant women, and ensures that patients in need of lifesaving emergency treatment are referred to the local hospital.
In 2010, MSF provided these services at three clinic sites in the city of Hargeisa to people living in the neighbourhoods of Lug Iyo Lacaag, Shadaha and State House. Patients include displaced people, refugees from neighbouring countries, economic migrants and other marginalised groups. Many cannot afford to pay for healthcare and live in poor conditions, often without proper access to clean water, sufficient food or the opportunity to earn a living.
